Susan has a wealth of experience of tutoring and supporting students in a distance learning environment:
- For the past eight years, she has taught Creative Writing Online through the Centre for Lifelong Learning at Cardiff University.
- Susan also mentors and tutors students by email on a private basis. She often works intensively with advanced students who may be engaged in writing a full-length poetry collection or novel but she equally enjoys working with beginners, offering prompts and exercises to kick-start the writing process.
- Over a period of four years, she worked for trAce, the online writing school at Nottingham Trent University, designing and delivering courses, facilitating the online workshop and offering one-to-one tuition to more advanced students.
- Susan has also tutored adult students by post for the Open College of the Arts’ Starting to Write course.
If you are interested in one-to-one private tuition, mentoring or manuscript appraisal, please contact Susan for further information.
What some of Susan’s distance learning students have said:
My writing apprenticeship with Susan Richardson started in class at Llanover Hall and developed online. Her facilitative style of encouraging critique inspires creativity while paying acute attention to detail. Her class enabled me to learn experientially and explore my potential in different writing forms. Online I received constructive feedback that motivated me to finish one book and start another. Susan is mistress of her craft – Janet Daniel
Susan Richardson has been my creative writing mentor on writing courses and on an individual basis over the last six years. She has helped me to hone my skills and experiment with prose, including autobiography, travel writing and monologues, and poetry. She offers her comments in a positive and clear way encouraging me to work on my writing efforts and take them in directions I had not previously thought of. I am so glad that I found her. Last year Susan edited the manuscript of my book 'Soul Song'. Her comments, which very often stretched me, helped me structure it into a much more accomplished effort. I have now published the book. You can see more about it on my website - Elizabeth Jones
Susan has steered, sheared, sliced, advised, trimmed my flabby blurts and shed adverbs, tautened my tales when I ran off the rails - always deftly done with her one-to-one! – Meryl Evans
