Susan is grateful to have had the opportunity to perform her work at numerous festivals throughout the UK and overseas, from Cheltenham to Adelaide, Toronto to Hay.

She especially relishes performing at environmental and wildlife-focused events, with highlights including the Marine Conservation Society’s Big Night Out alongside Philip Hoare, Bristol Big Green Week alongside John Hegley, a candle- and lantern-lit gig for WWF’s Earth Hour, and the annual conferences of the Green Party and Natural History Consortium.

As well as being booked by traditional performance venues such as arts centres and theatres, Susan has shared her work in many non-conventional spaces including a barge on the River Avon, the living-room section of IKEA for UN World Environment Day, Bristol Aquarium and the ruins of Caerleon’s Roman Baths.

She also loves taking her wildlife-themed poetry outdoors into the landscapes that inspired it and has led dozens of Poetry Walks, with performances deep in the woods at the Wilderness Festival and on clifftops along the Wales Coast Path for the Gower Walking Festival being particularly enjoyable.

Performance-Presentations at Academic Conferences

As well as regularly offering performance-presentations at conferences organised by the University of Strathclyde’s British Animal Studies Network with which she has an ongoing writing residency, Susan has performed, and shared her research at, a wide range of other academic conferences and events.

She took particular delight in contributing to the launch of the Centre for Human/Animal Studies at Edge Hill University, by exploring how poetry may be used as a tool for consciousness-raising and creating behaviour change around issues of animal welfare and species extinction.

She also appreciated having a long-term association with ARCIO (Action Research and Critical Enquiry in Organisations) at the University of Bristol which culminated in a performance-presentation, Engaging Nature: The Power of Activist Poetry, alongside Dr Mary Phillips at the Thinking Futures Festival.
