Have been starting to think about my forthcoming trip to Scotland, to the 2009 Fort William Mountain Festival, at which I’ll be offering a Wild Writing Workshop and a reading from Creatures of the Intertidal Zone.
The festival is a week-long event that celebrates all aspects of mountain culture and features lectures, films, rock and ice climbing sessions and art/photography exhibitions.
I’m really looking forward to it – my train ticket is booked (rather a tortuous thirteen-hour trip from Cardiff, with four changes!) and, in consultation with Alison Austin of the John Muir Trust which is organising the event, I’ve also been studying maps of the area to decide what route to follow.
Here’s the blurb about my workshop from the festival website:
Have you been inspired by an outdoor experience and want to write about it? Presented by the John Muir Trust and The Nevis Partnership, this workshop will help you explore your ideas in our wonderful landscape. Writer and poet Susan Richardson will take us on a journey to explore different ways of capturing those experiences on paper. To conclude the workshop, Susan will read from her collection of poetry, Creatures of the Intertidal Zone (Cinnamon Press), inspired by her journey through Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland.
Bring warm clothes, waterproofs, sturdy outdoor footwear and a notebook suitable for use on the go and, of course, something to write with!
Sunday 8th March | 1 – 5pm | Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, | £6
Booking essential | Please call 01397 705049 or email [email protected]
We much look forward to hearing more when you are ready.
Thanks for the good wishes, Michelle – I had a fantastic weekend and will be blogging about it once I’ve caught up with all the other work that’s piled up while I was away!
Susan, just wanted to say have a wonderful weekend – and an especially good day on Sunday. I’m looking forward to hearing all about it. Travel safely.
I haven’t been to Fort William before, Caroline. When we went to Skye, we headed across from Inverness so missed the Fort William area out.
It sounds a wonderful opportunity. We revisited the Fort William area on our way to Skye last June.
I’m looking forward to the train journey (reading and writing time!) as long as there aren’t too many delays and missed connections…
Hope it goes well! I always think there should be a quicker way to go from Scotland to the South west by train.
A Wild Writing Workshop. Wonderful. It’ll be worth the train journey.
