‘Seals and Selkie Folk’, BBC Radio 3
Susan loved having the opportunity to feature in ‘Seals and Selkie Folk’, a Slow Radio episode on BBC Radio 3, inviting listeners to join her on the cliffs above the grey seal pupping beach that she monitors in Pembrokeshire. Throughout the programme, her seal- and selkie-themed poetry and prose is interwoven with the pups’ cries and the adults’ grunts and howls.
‘Seals and Selkie Folk’ was selected as one of the week’s broadcasting highlight on BBC Radio 4’s Pick of the Week.
Saturday Live, BBC Radio 4
Over a period of four years, Susan was lucky enough to be one of the resident poets on BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live. Every six weeks or so, she took part in the live show by writing and performing two new poems, the first in response to the main news story of the week and the second in response to one of the items featured in the programme.
Chelsea Flower Show, BBC 2
Susan’s TV work includes having being commissioned to write poetry for BBC Two’s coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show. She performed her new work both in one of the show gardens and on the sofa alongside presenters Alan Titchmarsh and Joe Swift in the evening highlights programme.
Excess Baggage, BBC Radio 4
Susan has also been a guest on Radio 4’s Excess Baggage. Alongside novelist Margaret Elphinstone, she discussed the joys of winter and travelling in icy landscapes.
Something Else, BBC Radio Wales
Over an eight-year period, Susan was one of the regular guests on the BBC Radio Wales talk show, Something Else. Throughout the live show, Susan and two other guests reviewed the Sunday papers, discussed what had happened in the past week and speculated on the week to come.
